Enjoy a stroll through Gabriella’s chic Toronto home as she shares some of her favorite things.

What’s your favorite part about your space?

My favourite part about our space is our exposed brick wall. I love the texture and character it adds to our home.

If this room were a song what would it be?

Amazing question. I think it would be KC & The Sunshine Band – Boogie Shoes.

Where did you draw inspiration?

I’m a multidisciplinary design lover. I love modern forward pieces and anything made of plastic but at the same time I feel really inspired by old-world decadence. Things that are handmade or designed creatively are always inspiring me.

What’s your favorite item in the space? Where did you score it?

My favourite item in my space is the Chiaozza rug that I got from the Ikea Art Event back in 2019. Having it wall mounted brings so much vibrance to our space and I love the texture it adds.

What is one thing we wouldn’t know about this room from just looking at it?

Probably that 80% of the items here are second-hand. Either from vintage dealers, pieces handed down to me, or treasures I find on the side of the road.

If you had to pick one, what design element stands out as your favorite?

Probably the lighting in our home. I am obsessed with light fixtures and lamps and am always collecting and adding to lighting around the house.

Give it to us straight, what’s still in-progress about your space?

A lot! But if I were to be specific, truthfully this place needs to be majorly repainted. I move things around a lot and our walls have seen better days. A fresh coat of paint and some serious patching is in order…one day!

In your book, what makes a space beautiful?

I think the most beautiful spaces are those that are a genuine personal expression of what makes someone happy. Sure, there are design rules and trends that dominate what’s popular but to me these are only a starting point. This is my favourite thing to explore with my clients.

What makes this space feel like home to you?

All the stories behind our pieces. That’s the beauty of buying second hand, there’s always an anecdote. I like a good conversation starter!

What a fun interview! I particularly love the idea of wondering what song a space might be. now im wandering around my house thinking about that and trying to find some more inspiration in it!
