Mishelle Kost Shares Her Advice for Creatives
Mishelle Kost is a leadership coach, speaker, director of retail operations, and most adorably, a dog mom. She’s owned and operated two health cafes and currently co-owns a gym with her husband (we love a successful queen!). She’s on a mission to empower, educate, and encourage people to discover their gifts, connect with their inner leader and collectively create a better world for everyone.
What drove you to start your business?
My desire to help people restore choice in their lives. I believe anyone has the ability to be a leader and I have a heart for developing people. To me, everyone has endless potential to be great.
What are some practices you recommend for creatives who are trying to find their purpose?
Ask yourself, “what makes your heart sing?”
“Your purpose is found when you identify your gifts and you figure out how to share them with the world in a way that elevates others.”
What are the most common lies creatives tell themselves, and how do they overcome them?
I think some creatives have inherited a belief from society that success is found in the corporate world. And so they believe that their work isn’t good enough or that they should be doing something more reputable. The truth is the world needs your art. Redefine what success means to you and create new beliefs that support your vision.
How do you find the strength to move on when a project isn’t working?
I reset with my vision and then realign my goals. Once I’m reconnected to my why, I invite trusted people to brainstorm with me and look for new ways to approach it.
What would you tell people who think it’s too late to change course in their career?
It’s never too late to make a new choice and recreate your life. You’re always one decision away from a completely different life. It takes courage and bravery to step out into the unknown. The only timeline that exists is the one you set for yourself.
If you could speak one lesson into all the creatives and entrepreneurs out there- what would it be?
Don’t give up. Even when it’s hard. It’s supposed to be hard. Those that are successful are the ones that kept going. Stay the course.
